XION™ Composite Ion Exchange Membrane – AEM
XION™ Composite Ion Exchange Membranes are ultra-thin, ultra-strong, and provide ultra-high performance in electrochemical applications. The compositing comes from a reinforcement layer that is integrated into the structure of the membrane to provide enhanced mechanical properties. The enhanced mechanical properties of the composite membranes allow them to be much manufactured much thinner than free-standing membranes, providing higher ionic conductance without sacrificing strength.
The XION™ Composite Anion Exchange Membranes (AEM) are manufactured from resins that have demonstrated superior chemical stability and IEC to competitive products. The major benefit of AEM systems is the reduced cost from the use of non-PGM/low PGM catalysts and stainless steel components over costlier titanium components. AEMs are used in applications that require the transport of anionic species including OH- and Cl-.

The XION™ Composite Proton Exchange Membranes (PEM) are manufactured from variations of the perfluorosulfonic acid (PFSA) ionomer. PFSA membranes are highly stable and used in state of the art fuel cell and electrolyzer applications. PEMs are used in applications that require the transport of cationic species (also known as Cation Exchange Membranes – CEM) including H+ and Na+.
XION™ Composite Bipolar Membranes
XION™ Composite Bipolar Membranes are ultra-strong, ultra-selective, and provide ultra-high performance, while demonstrating high chemical stability as reinforced bipolar membranes (BPM). Xergy has the largest selection of cation exchange ionomers (CEI) and anion exchange ionomers (AEI) to select from for BPM design. CEIs available include Dyneon™, Aquivion™, and Nafion™ PFSA ionomers, and AEIs available include Durion™ and Pention™ ionomers. A reinforcement layer is integrated into the structure of the membrane to provide enhanced mechanical properties and reduced swelling.
